Worker lay-offs to surpass 7,500 since ISA
"This month we are going to surpass 7,500 workers fired from their jobs," states Javier Ugarte, president of Contrasal, the national federation of salmon workers in Chile in yesterday’s La Estrategia. From his point of view as representative of the salmon industry workforce, Ugarte claims that nothing has become of his message and his participation in numerous "salmon workgroup" meetings coordinated amongst the public and private sector. He insists that either the public or private sector must take responsibility for the debt workers have accrued in unpaid mortgages.
