Vaccine sales down by 2.6m
Sales of vaccines for salmon in May ended at 12.3 million doses compared to 14.9 million in May 2014. In the last two years there has been an increased level of vaccination in May. This is mainly explained by an early start of S0 vaccination, some companies starting off already in May/June.
The vaccination season of the S1s 2015 is now ended. In the period September 2014 through May 2015, the total purchase of vaccines were 177.4 million doses compared to 180.9 million doses for the S1 2014. As part of the vaccine sales in May is reserved for vaccination of S0s-2015, the May sales-split must be further evaluated. However, based on the total vaccine sales, a general conclusion is that there will not be any major changes in number of S1s-2015 compared to S1s-2014. In 2014 the actual S1- release was 159.5 million, according to Kontali analyse.
Total sales of vaccines will never give an exact picture of the actual number of smolts released, but it is considered as a strong indicator. There are some uncertainties related to the split in vaccination of S0s compared to S1s in September, and vaccine purchase in May intended for S0-vaccination. Additional factors are the possibility of unused vaccine and variation in loss rate between generations in the period from vaccination to sea entry.
There were no sales of vaccines for trout in May. PD-vaccine sales in May were 7.5 million doses compared to 7.2 million doses in May 2014. Lumpfish vaccine sales in May ended at 400,000 doses.
