
USA was the largest market for Chilean salmon in April
Christian Pérez 45 percent of all Chilean salmon (Atlantic and Coho) was sent to the USA in April this year, positioning that market as the largest importer of Chilean salmonids. Brazil ranked in second place with 22 percent of all salmon; followed by Russia, with 6 percent; Japan, with 5 percent; and France and Germany, with 3 percent each. According to the most recently published monthly report of foreign trade prepared by the National Customs Service, the Chilean exports of salmon and trout totalized US$ 1,122.9 million up to April 2013, representing a 5.3 percent decrease compared to the same period of 2012, when the local salmon industry obtained revenues of US$ 1,186.1 million.
