USA have imported 40% less Chilean salmon fillets as of September
In terms of value, the American imports of fresh farmed salmon fillets from Chile decreased by 37.5% from USD 465.8 million to USD 290.7 million according to the trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.
This downfall trend has been partially compensated by the continuous increase of the Norwegian fresh farmed salmon fillets exported to that market. During the first nine months of this year the USA imported 12,997 tonnes of this product from Norway representing a 673.1% increase compared with the 1,681 tonnes sent in the same period of 2008.
Meanwhile, the value of the Norwegian exports of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the USA increased an impressive 738% from USD 13.7 million to USD 115.4 million.
In total, the USA imported 55,580 tonnes of fresh farmed fillets of Atlantic salmon between January and September this year.
