US reopens its market for salmon from Marine Harvest Chile
Christian Pérez According to the National Service of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Sernapesca, lab analyses to 50 samples from fish harvested in the farming site Apiao showed negative results to both, crystal violet (CV) and leuco crystal violet (LCV). This farming site belongs to Marine Harvest Chile (MH Chile) and was identified as the origin of those fish questioned by the FDA. Besides, Sernapesca conducted several samplings in the processing plant used with the questioned fish and also ruled out any presence of this chemicals. Cecilia Solis, head of the External Trade department of Sernapesca, commented that Sernapesca is now able to unblock the fish farmed in Apiao, given these results. This blockade will be notified in the coming days. Meanwhile, the FDA discarded the presence of CV and LCV in six consecutive shipments that MH Chile sent to the US market last July. Consequently, this agency has authorized all MH Chile products to re-enter the US market.
