At the beginning vaccines to control the main Chilean salmon producers' headache, ISA virus, were brought from Norway. Today three laboratories are working here on the supplying of a cure for this disease: Novartis, Centrovet and Recalcine.

According to the business journal Estrategia, SalmonChile's general manager Carlos Odebret stated that this year between the months of January and May the local industry has utilized about 15 millions vaccines against ISA. Additionally, in accordance with some sources close to the industry, each vaccine (individual dose) costs about US$ 0.65 totalizing an investment close to US$ 9.75 millions.

"More laboratories offering this solution is of key importance especially when the industry outlooks even a 50% downfall on its Atlantic salmon production" Odebret concluded.
