Turbid waters in Chaitén
The Minister of the Environment Ana Lya Uriarte together with the Minister of Defense José Goñi, in charge of operation campaign in Chaitén recently spoke of the preliminary environmental analysis of the region surrounding the Chaitén volcano, concluding a “complex and dynamic” situation. According to Aqua.cl Minister Ana Lya Uriarte explained that the fluvial regions are indeed receiving the most stress from the load of ash, which has created a silt-like turbidity in the river basin. The milky water created by the turbid mixture of ash is much more acidic than normal and will cause a definite stress upon the aquatic flora and fauna throughout the following months.
