According to the local newspaper La Prensa Austral, Drago Covacich commented that the salmon production volumes in the Region 12th have been stalled around 10,000 tonnes since the year 2007. He further argued that this situation is explained due to the moratorium established over salmon farming in that region 3 years ago.
Today, there are only two salmon producing companies operating in that region. Covacich believes that by 2020 there will be at least five or six companies with a total production close to 80,000 tonnes worth USD 200 million and generating around 5,000 direct jobs.
