Strengthening links between Norway and Scotland
The visit coincides with the internatinal aquaculture exhibition Aqua Nor, which takes place in Trondheim this week. It includes the signing of a MoU between Norway and Scotland to enhance collaboration in the aquaculture industry, which took place yesterday.
Ahead of the trip, Ms Cunningham said: “The aquaculture industry represents £350 million to Scotland's economy and is a major success story, worth broadly the same as sea fisheries.
“Like Scotland, Norway's aquaculture industry is dominated by Atlantic salmon, and many rural communities in both countries depend on the industry. Scotland and Norway can learn a lot from each other to see the potential of the sector fulfilled.
The Minister said she looked forward to visiting Norway to meet experts in the field of finfish aquaculture.
"It is vitally important that we take steps now to make Scotland's aquaculture industry economically sustainable for the future,” she added.
