SSC to focus on exports
“2014 was a record year in terms of revenue and harvests for The Scottish Salmon Company, which is reflected in growing demand from international and domestic markets looking for the finest Scottish salmon,” says Craig Anderson, managing director of SSC.
"We have seen growing interest from new and expanding export markets including Europe, USA and also from the Far East including China and Thailand where demand is increasing due to the influences of high end restaurants and Japanese cuisine, as well as a strong focus on food provenance,” he says.
However, he says, prices had been volatile: “As other years, 2014 was not without challenges. This resulted in pricing volatility across the industry. However, exposure to this is limited by developing a stronger international presence and working closely in partnership with select customers,” he claims.
Anderson says focusing on increasing the international market will be key: "In 2015 we are continuing to focus on building strong customer relationships and work hard to increase our international market with a greater emphasis this year on visiting newer geographies for the business, such as the Far East.
“As the leading producer of exclusively Scottish salmon, we have strong growth ambitions and our latest figures show that we are on the right track to grow our international export volumes to 50% by 2016,” he says.
