Christian Pérez According to a report recently published by the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca), Chile imported 18.70 million rainbow trout eggs in the first seven months of this year, which represent a 25 per cent decrease compared to the 24.95 million eggs imported in the same period of the previous year. Likewise, the country imported 9.4 million Atlantic salmon eggs up to July 2014, representing a 61.3 per cent decrease compared to the 24.3 million eggs imported in the same months of 2013. Regarding the supplier countries of those eggs, Atlantic salmon roe imports came from Iceland and rainbow trout roe imports from Denmark in the first seven months of this year, just like in 2013. Meanwhile, close to 239.9 million eggs of salmonids have been produced in in the first six months of this year, representing a 76.6 per cent decrease compared to national roe production in the same period of the previous year.
