Skretting Chile claims excellent results with new diet
Claudia Gatica, Skretting Chile’s product manager for specialty diets recently published a report (http://www.aqua.cl/articulos/?id=109) on the test results of company’s newest product, Diet Defense, which has been on the market since the first of the year. The diet concept is similar to the Protec line in Norway. The objectives of the tests were to determine the diet’s effectiveness in preventing the bacterial diseases caused by Vibrio ordalii, Aeromonas salmonicida, Flavobacterium psychrophilum, Piscirickettsia salmonis (SRS); fungal disease caused by Saprolegnia spp.; and the viral disease ISA. According to the results published, the growth of all four bacteria tested was notably less; the spore count of the fungus Saprolegnia was also less; and the ISAv virus was destroyed when the concentration of the active ingredient (a vegetable extract) was over 500 ppm, and the virus was exposed at this concentration for certain length of time.
