Shortly following the joint seminar titled, “Salmon Industry in Norway and Chile – How can research and technology development help meet our challenges?” at the AquaNor conference this week, the three well known Norwegian aquaculture companies will establish themselves in Chile under one name – AVS Chile. According to Akvaforsk CEO Bjørn Skjævestad in a press conference with Aqua.cl in Norway this week, “The mission of AVS Chile is to create an understanding of an aquaculture industry that is profitable, healthy, and sustainable. Our vision is to become one of the leading aquaculture institutions for applied investigation and development in Chile; and our objective to do so is to become a motor for the bilateral transfer of scientific knowledge, and professionals and students between Norway and Chile.” Dr. Jan Olli was named General Manager of AVS Chile. Dr. Olli has worked in aquaculture R&D and consulting for nearly twenty years, for companies such as Asplan Viak, BioMar and Akvaforsk. AVS Chile pools its vast experience and strength from the following sources: Akvaforsk – research and expertise in fish nutrition, genetics, production and processing; Veso – vaccine testing, development of fish health products and zoosanitary consulting; and Sinef – production and processing applications.
