Sick eels spark fears for Scottish salmon
Tests on the eels are being carried out at a laboratory in Aberdeen to determine the cause of death.
Eels have been found dead or dying by anglers on the rivers Dee in Aberdeenshire and Spey, which flows through the Highlands and Moray.
River managers fear the eels had an illness which they could transfer to salmon.
The affected eels have noticeable lesions on their skin.
Work is ongoing to identify the cause of the morbidity.
