Share prices of salmon companies sloping down
Within the past 7 days, the share prices of these companies have decreased as follows: Empresas AquaChile (-12.6%) from US$ 0.87 to US$ 0.76; Australis Seafoods (-6.4%), from US$ 0.41 to US$ 0.38; Invertec Pesquera del Mar de Chiloé (-15.5%), from US$ 0.46 to US$ 0.39; and Salmones Multiexport (-18.2%), from US$ 0.41 to US$ 0.33
Meanwhile, the “Salmon Index” in the Santiago Stock Exchange (SSE) has decreased 12.9% in the past 7 days, from 4.700 points to 4.092 points. This index was created this month and shows the share price behavior of those salmon producing companies registered in the SSE. This “Salmon Index” has experienced the strongest decrease in the last week compared to indexes representing other Chilean economic sectors (retail, construction, industrial, banking, commodities, etc.).
Allegedly, this negative trend has been caused by certain rumors about new ISA outbreaks in the country. These rumors would be the result of misinterpretation of the last report on ISA produced by the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca). This report shows an increase in the number of suspect sites of ISA, although, most of them correspond to a non-pathogenic strain of the virus (HPR0).
Besides, it seems that the recent decrease on the Atlantic salmon price has also negatively impacted the share prices of these above mentioned companies.
