Seminar on investments in Africa
The organizers have presented some of the highlights from the program:
1. Presentation of the study "Identification of potential aquaculture and fish processing investment projects and partners in selected countries in Africa" by the authors, NFDS/ECON Pöyry; 2. Experience from building up a large fish farming activity in Africa (tilapia) by Patrick Blow, CEO Lake Harvest Aquaculture (Pvt) Ltd, Zimbabwe; 3. Comments by - The Norwegian Ambassador to Mozambique and Mauritius, Ms. Tove Bruvik Westberg; - Mr. Morten Høyum, President and CEO, GenoMar AS; 4. Questions, answers, discussions; The moderator of the meeting will be Mr. Erik Strømsøe, The Advisory Office Hildan, will also be present. Both Ambassadors will be available for discussions in connection with the seminar. The study consists of: · Initial screening of African countries in relation to fisheries and investment climate; · Desk studies of the investment climate and the fisheries sector in nine countries (Egypt, Ghana, Kenya, Mauritius, Mozambique, Namibia, South Afrika, Tanzania, Uganda); and · In-depth studies of investment opportunities in four countries (Ghana, Mozambique, Tanzania and Uganda); The study reports can be downloaded in full from Norad's web site: http://norad.no/en/Tools+and+publications/Publications/Search+result/125664.cms The report consists of four files: (I) Executive Summary, (II) Main Report, (III) Nine Country Profiles, and (IV) Four Country Profiles. The study was undertaken by Nordenfjeldske Development Services (NFDS) and Econ Pöyry, on assignment from Norad. The study is part of the efforts to stimulate Norwegian commercial investments in Africa, as discussed during the brain-storming event during Nor-Fishing 2008. The purpose of the study is to identify investment opportunities suitable for Norwegian investors. Norad's support programmes and Norfund can contribute to the realization of good project ideas.
