Sealice alert declared in neighborhood 10

This increased abundance has been confirmed through a report produced by the Animal Health Unit of Sernapesca, which has informed that the neighborhood 10 has experienced an increase in the parasitic abundance above the maximum infestation levels (NEI, from its initials in Spanish) for both stages, adult and juvenile lice.

According to the local newspaper El Llanquihue, there have been three coordinated delousing treatments but abundances have not decreased below the maximum levels.

Sernapesca has explained that this situation represents an adverse and risky sanitary condition for those salmon farming sites located in that area. Therefore, Sernapesca has requested those farming sites in the neighborhood 10 to weekly report about their sea lice conditions for 6 months. Besides, if abundance increases above 6 parasites per fish, microzones for coordinated treatment will be implemented.
