Seafood supplier join ethics database

Sedex is a not-for-profit organisation that allows members to store and view data on their labour standards, health and safety, environment and business ­integrity, and allows other businesses to view it. By sharing information on Sedex, Cumbrian Seafoods would be able to ascertain if its suppliers met its own standards, said technical director Huw Thomas. "As a company upholding ethical trading, it is our moral obligation to ensure we can see our suppliers are adhering to the same standards."

“All of our suppliers have signed up,” he added.

Cumbrian Seafoods is the largest independent supplier of seafood to UK supermarkets. Tesco, Waitrose and M&S are founding members of Sedex, and Sainsbury's and Aldi are members.
