Scots lose nearly 200,000 salmon
All in all there were 12 breaches of containment on salmon farms recorded by the Scottish Government.
However, in two of the incidents no fish had actually escaped and in five of the incidents only one or two fish had got away. The biggest breach of containment happened in January in Shetland, where 154,569 salmon escaped from Meridian Salmon’s site in Ness of Copister due to bad weather and mooring failure.
The statistics also show three breaches of containment on trout farms in Scotland, although only one farm actually lost fish, and only four trout were reported missing overall.
