The general manager of Salmones Itata, Gerardo Balbontín, explained that in the first half-year of 2010 his company concentrated a significant part of the total volume of Atlantic salmon harvested by the Chilean salmon industry, because their sites were not affected by the ISA virus, hence, they harvested most of the fish sowed by the end of 2008.

Regarding their plans for this year and according to the financial journal Diario Financiero, Salmones Itata mostly sowed Atlantic salmon in the first half-year, they will sow Rainbow trout in the second half-year and they expect to take up again their Atlantic salmon sowings in 2011.

Finally, he said that the industry should not lower its guard, since in his opinion the sanitary issues are not completely solved yet and it is easy to have a relapse.

Salmones Itata was ranked third among the largest Chilean salmon producing companies in the first half-year with sales for USD 69.5 million.
