SalmonChile agreed implementation of SalmonGAP standard
The signing of the agreement took place during the Tenth International Conference of Global GAP 'Summit 2010' in the presence of the president of the Association of the Chilean Salmon Industry (SalmonChile), Cesar Barros; the Chilean Ambassador in the United Kingdom, Tomás Müller; the managing director of Global GAP, Kristian Moeller; the assistant manager for administration and finance of SalmonChile, Benjamín González; and the representative of ProChile in the UK, Cristián López.
César Barros said that this agreement marks a stage in the history of the local salmon industry because it constitutes the first Chilean standard specifically made for this economic sector and also internationally recognized. Besides, he stated that “SalmonGAP not only reflects our efforts to improve in production, sanitary, quality and food safety aspects but also in other relevant topics such as the environmental sustainability.”
According to SalmonChile, the main objective for SalmonGAP is to standardize and improve the production and processing of salmon in a sustainable way and it is expected to strengthen the national and international image of Chile and the local salmon industry.
