According to Australis Seafoods, there has always been a strong correlation between prices and offer. The company thinks that Atlantic salmon supply is expected to increase around 2 percent next year (about 38,000 tonnes), from 1,95 million tonnes this year to 1,98 million tonnes in 2013.

The company stated that "given a constant 6 percent increase in demand*, this 2 percent supply increase over 2013 should produce a price increase in the range of 15-20 percent".

Finally, Australis Seafoods also commented that Chile is the largest contributor to this increase among all salmon producing countries. The Chilean production of Atlantic salmon is expected to increase close to 15 percent next year, from 379,000 tonnes this year to 439,000 tonnes in 2013.
