Salmon prices in Japan on the downslide
Christian Pérez According to a report recently published by the Undersecretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture, Subpesca, all Chilean frozen seafood products have experienced a price reduction in the first-half year in Japan. This market concentrates 35 percent of the local exports of frozen seafood. Moreover, the price for frozen Atlantic salmon has decreased 46 percent in Japan, while frozen Rainbow trout has decreased 42 percent, and Coho salmon 51 percent. As a consequence, the Japanese market has paid US$ 300 million less for Chilean seafood so far this year. This situation has been partially offset by improved prices in Russia, the USA and Brazil.
