The Nifes study showed that farmed salmon had lower levels of most environmental pollutants than wild salmon, including dioxins, PCBs and pesticides.

Salmon is the main export product in Aysén

In a recent report published by the Export Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ProChile), salmonids are included in the ‘fisheries’ category which totalized exports for US$ 145.96 million in Aysén during the first six months of this year. Meanwhile, the mining industry exported US$ 36.91 million from that region; and the agricultural sector exported US$ 1.55 million in the first four months of this year.

As a consequence of this leadership, 5 out of the 10 biggest exporter companies in the region of Aysén are salmon producing companies: Acuinova Chile (US$ 61.45 million); Salmones FrioSur (US$ 53.26 million); Salmones Ice Val (US$ 9.80 million); Salmones Cupquelán (US$ 5.08 million); and Salmones Itata (US$ 1.96 million).

The region of Aysén totalized exports of US$ 184.58 million in the period.
