Salmon exports to USA fall 42%
In terms of value, the American imports of fresh farmed salmon fillets from Chile decreased by 40.02% from USD 518,2 million to USD 310,8 million according to the trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.
This downfall trend has been partially compensated by the continuous increase of the Norwegian fresh farmed salmon fillets exported to that market. During the first ten months of this year the USA imported 14,926 tonnes of this product from Norway representing a 712.07% increase compared with the 1,838 tonnes sent in the same period of 2008.
Meanwhile, the value of the Norwegian exports of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the USA increased an impressive 775.64% from USD 15.1 million to USD 132.9 million.
In total, the USA imported 61,066 tonnes of fresh farmed fillets of Atlantic salmon between January and October this year.
