In terms of value, the American imports of fresh farmed salmon fillets from Chile decreased by 41.49% from USD 564 million to USD 330 million according to the trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.

This downfall trend was partially compensated by the continuous increase of the Norwegian fresh farmed salmon fillets exported to that market. During the first eleven months of 2009 the USA imported 16,817 tonnes of this product from Norway representing a 745.60% increase compared with the 1,988 tonnes sent in the same period of 2008.

Meanwhile, the value of the Norwegian exports of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the USA increased an impressive 813.55% from USD 16.4 million to USD 150 million.

In total, the USA imported 66,142 tonnes of fresh farmed fillets of Atlantic salmon between January and November 2009.
