
Salmon exports to Brazil could increase 27 percent this year
According to the financial journal Diario Financiero, fresh Atlantic salmon is the largest salmonid product exported to Brazil with an 87 percent share of all shipments last year.
Felipe Manterola, manager for Administration and Finance of the Association of the Chilean Salmon Industry (SalmonChile), commented that the local salmon producers expect to reach a 50 percent increase in their exports to Brazil within the next couple of years.
The three largest Chilean salmon exporters to this market in the first half-year of 2012 are Marine Harvest with 6,194 net tonnes worth US$ 30 million; followed by Mainstream Chile, with 4,225 net tonnes and US$ 20 million; and Salmones Multiexport, with 3,838 net tonnes and US$ 19 million according to statistic consultant company InfoTrade.
