Several acoustic equipments were used during the eighties in Chile to expel sea lions away from salmon cages but they were discredited due to inefficacy said the general manager of Salmo Divers, Héctor Vera, detailing that inappropriate use by non-qualified personnel and sea lions accustomed to sounds were the main reasons of those failures.

Based on those premises and on different successful trials along the Chilean coast, Héctor Vera stated that his company is prepared to offer this service, operated by his qualified personnel and during the last three to four months prior to harvests.

"One of the farming sites lost 80 harvest size salmons monthly before we used the equipment, decreasing that figure close to zero after we provided the service" he added, explaining that his acoustic system saves about USD 22,000 monthly by each farming site.
