Salar Smokehouse wins Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards
The other nominees were Tom Kitchin, Bill Costley and Loch Arthur Creamery & Farm Shop. Salar Smokehouse has made a name for itself in the 10 years since Jane and Eric Twelves turned their small salmon farm on South Uist from a kitchen smokery into a thriving family business. Salar Flaky Smoked Salmon was on the menu at the opening of the Scottish Parliament, and has featured at several royal banquets and celebrity chef Nick Nairn singles it out as a favourite.> The Glenfiddich Spirit of Scotland Awards, which celebrated its 10th anniversary this year, was created to recognise the achievements and mark on Scottish culture made by individuals over the course of a year. Voted for by Glenfiddich drinkers, readers of the Scotsman newspaper and STV viewers, the aspiring and inspiring writers, musicians, sportsmen and women, artists, culinary creatives and entrepreneurs were rewarded for the contributions they have made to the community in 2007.
