Roe imports restricted
The National Director of Sernapesca, Félix Inostroza, detailed that “imports without PD-free records from their country, zone or site or with insufficient antecedents will not be authorized”. He remarked the importance of strengthen prevention and protection measures since PD is considered as a high-risk disease and one of those with largest impacts in salmon farming.
This decision took effect under the Sernapesca’s Resolution 873, revoking a previous one which provided the option of certification for PD analysis based solely on individual-based screening of breeders.
"This means that we will evaluate all implemented surveillance systems in those countries that export eggs to Chile to ensure adequate protection against the Pancreas Disease" Inostroza said.
Sernapesca is currently processing available information and requesting additional records abroad to publish an updated official list of supplying countries of eggs that have approved PD surveillance programs. Exceptionally, those companies that are currently authorized by resolution of the Under-secretary of Fisheries (Subpesca) to import eggs may retain the option of screening for a period of one month from now on.
