Roe imports decreased to less than half in Chile

Christian Pérez According to a report recently published by the National Fisheries Service (Sernapesca), Chile imported 12.75 million Rainbow trout eggs in the first four months of this year which represent a 43.7 percent decrease compared to the 22.65 million eggs imported in the same period of the previous year. Likewise, the country imported 7.7 million Atlantic salmon eggs up to April 2014, representing a 65.6 percent decrease compared to the 22.4 million eggs imported in the same months of 2013. Regarding the supplier countries of those eggs, Atlantic salmon roe imports came from Iceland and Rainbow trout roe imports from Denmark in the first four months of this year, just like in 2013. Meanwhile, close to 47.9 million eggs of salmonids have been produced in in the first three months of this year, representing a 5.3 percent decrease compared to local roe production in the previous year.
