Roe imports decreased 23 percent in Chile

Christian Pérez According to a report recently published by the Chilean Under-Secretariat of Fisheries and Aquaculture (Subpesca), 50.1 percent of those 49.9 million imported roe were Rainbow trout eggs from Denmark and 49.9 percent were Atlantic salmon eggs from Iceland. Regarding the local production of roe, Chile has produced 494.4 million eggs up to August this year. In August, the local salmon industry produced 59.3 million eggs of Atlantic salmon (70.1%), Rainbow trout (27.7%) and Coho salmon (2.1%). Moreover, Sernapesca imposed a temporally suspension over salmon roe imports past August 17th, while implements an update on the risk analysis of two diseases recently included in the Chilean list of high risk diseases.
