Risk score to be discussed in an expert panel
The head of the Aquaculture Division of the Under-secretariat of Fisheries (Subpesca), José Miguel Burgos, commented that this expert panel will discuss next Monday about the risk score in individual farming sites. Meanwhile, the discussion about the risk score in neighborhoods or groups of aquaculture licenses will be postponed for a future instance.
According to the financial journal Estrategia, Mr Burgos also explained that this risk score will be mainly based on the different sanitary indexes existing within the salmon industry. The score obtained by each farming site will be publicly shared every month in the website of the National Fisheries Service (www.sernapesca.cl). “The higher the score, the greater the risk,” he said.
Finally, the Chilean Government explained that the expert panel will not discuss about the Heart and Skeletal Muscle Inflammation virus (HSMI) due to its low mortality rates in those countries where it is present. In turn, Subpesca discarded the presence of this disease in Chile.
