Redundancy threat for 50 jobs
Pinneys of Scotland, which has a royal warrant to supply smoked salmon to the Queen, has begun a consultation on the redundancy proposals, BBC News reports.
The site in Annan was bought by Grimsby-based The Seafood Company from Uniq, in March 2009.
The firm told the news source that it needs to streamline and consolidate its operation despite moves to boost the business. Managing director Andy Stapley said they had taken time to review the business, address the volumes, make the investment and now need to put in place a proven structure for a chilled fish business “which is consistent with our other factories, to consolidate the business for the long term."
Stapley added the redundancies proposal had been put forward with "deep regret" and efforts would be made to redeploy those affected.
