The Scottish Sea Farms (SSF) site would have comprised of twelve, 100-metre-circumference cages and a feed barge.

There were three letters of support and 28 letters of objection towards the application, the local newspaper wrote.

After some deliberation, the members of the OIC planning committee voted four for the application and four against, the final decision fell to the committee vice-chairman, Councillor Owen Tierney, who voted against the proposal.

Regional production manager for Scottish Sea Farms, Richard Darbyshire, was present at the meeting and said he was very disappointed with the decision and that the company would be appealing, according to the Orcadian.
