Production of Marine Harvest Chile to increase four times next year
Meanwhile, Riethmüller expects Marine Harvest Chile to produce around 25 000 tonnes this year and 40 000 tonnes annually, after 2012. Besides, he commented that the company is going to increase its production even further as soon as they consider that there is an acceptable level of sanitary risk within the local industry. “We have the resources and capacities to do so,” he said.
The company currently applies for new aquaculture licenses in the regions 8th (Bíobío) and 12th (Magellan) in order to operate in a larger space. In that way, Marine Harvest Chile expects to avoid saturation in the different farming areas.
According to the financial journal Estrategia, Roberto Riethmüller commented that the new sanitary and environmental regulation for salmon farming in Chile reflects some necessary and urgent changes in this activity. “We deeply regret that some of those regulations are still delayed, since vagueness regarding highly importance issues is the worst scenario for an industry that is coming out from a crisis,” he said.
