
Production down 10%
Chilean salmonid harvests totalled 292,258 tonnes in the first five months of 2015, representing a 10 per cent decrease compared to the previous year (325,682 tonnes) according to figures submitted by the Association of the Chilean Salmon Industry, which represents about 80 per cent of the country's production.
A comparison of results itemized by species shows a 3.5 per cent decrease in Atlantic salmon harvests, from 238,797 tonnes to 230,365 tonnes; a 40.4 per cent decrease in rainbow trout harvests, down to 25,918 tonnes; and a 17.1 per cent decrease in coho salmon harvests, down to 35,975 tonnes.
In geographical terms, the Region of Aysén contributed 52.2 per cent of all harvested fish as of May 2015, followed by Los Lagos (42.4%), Magallanes (5.1%) and Los Ríos (0.3%).
