Producer seeks tougher lice laws
"The challenges with salmon lice have to be solved," Marine Harvest's head of communications, Kristine Gramstad told NRK. She suggests the government should allocate more resources and money for stricter control.
"Our proposal is 15 million NOK extra to the Food Safety Autorities and an equal amount of money to the Directorat of Fisheries," says Gramstad.
In a comment from the FSA, Friede Andersen says they would need more resources, but also that the biggest problem for them is time and resource consuming trials where fish farmers, among them Marine Harvest, are forced to harvest fish with too many lice.
"They are allowed to complain, and they do. Processes like this can last for some time and be very challenging," she says.
