Potential changes to SalmonChile’s board of directors

Published Modified

Christian Pérez

A first modification in this electoral process, points to an increased number of directors, which would be augmented from 6 up to 8 representatives. In addition, this would be the board commissioned to deal with the new sanitary and environmental regulations, which could test the abilities of the local salmon industry to grow in a more sustainable way.

Besides, since the statutes of SalmonChile establish that each company has a number of votes in proportion to its exportations, significant changes are expected. Just like in the ranking of largest Chilean salmon exporters last year.

According to the Chilean newspaper La Tercera, the confirmation of members from Mainstream, Multiexport, Los Fiordos and the merged company resulting from El Golfo, Itata and Congelados Pacífico is given for granted. However, it would not be so clear if Marine Harvest Chile is going to ‘retain its chair’, since its production was strongly reduced last year.

The new elected board of directors of SalmonChile will also have to decide if it reelects or not César Barros as chairman of the guild.
