Possible variant of ISA affecting Chilean Atlantics
Preliminary diagnoses of an Atlantic salmon farm in the island of Chiloé have concluded that the farm is a carrier of a variant of ISA. Samples have been sent to Europe to confirm these diagnoses, as this type of disease is well known especially in Norway’s farmed Atlantic salmon. According to a press communication provided by SlamonChile to Aqua.cl, “This is no different than any other sanitary situation, and there is ample experience Norway, Scotland and Canada in regards to this virus. A confirmed diagnosis will allow us to precisely determine the necessary health management to combat it, restrict movements towards other farms and strengthen disinfection procedures to maintain the situation under control.
