Overlooked fish find favour at Sainsbury's
The supermarket said sales of seabass up 57 per cent and trout up 29 per cent. Sales of tilapia more than doubled.
According to a new report by Sainsbury’s, more than half of all fish sold in the UK will be outside of the five main species – cod, haddock, tuna, salmon and prawns – by 2030.
“It is great to see more people broadening their minds and appetites by buying and cooking currently less familiar seafood,” said Sainsbury’s aquaculture manager Ally Dingwall to the Grocer.
“We want to encourage more consumers to vary the fish and seafood in their diet. Doing so will help ensure we have sustainable supplies of this healthy, low-fat protein to eat in the future.”
