Outbreak of ISA virus in Aysén

Published Modified

Christian Pérez More than two years after the last outbreak of ISA in Chile, an infectious strain of the virus has been detected and confirmed in the country, in a farming site belonging to Pesquera Los Fiordos and located nearby the Garrao island in the Region of Aysén. According to the director of Sernapesca, Juan Luis Ansoleaga, as soon as Los Fiordos reported this situation, the authority activated the control and biosecurity measures to mitigate the effects and avoid the spread of this disease. In the next days, genetic sequencing will determinate the strain of the detected virus. However, laboratory analysis have already confirmed that it is not HPR 0 (non pathogenic strain). Pesquera Los Fiordos started harvesting the farming site in question the following day after the detection, in compliance with the biosecurity protocols established by Sernapesca in case of ISA outbreaks. Besides, Sernapesca implemented a preventive sanitary campaign in the surrounding areas of the affected farming site and has increased the surveillance frequency in the entire neighborhood 18D, where the site Garrao is located.
