Now Invertec stepped aside from SalmonChile
In an interview published by the local newspaper El Mercurio, the chairman of SalmonChile, César Barros, commented that Invertec stepped aside from the association that he leads due to disagreements with some Norwegian-based companies that also belong to SalmonChile.
He regretted both resignations, from AquaChile and Invertec, explaining that those companies had different reasoning behind their resignations to the guild. "Puchi renounced due to issues with the distances between concessions, since he wanted them to be for 2 miles. When Montanari voted over this topic, he opted for a mile and a half. So there is no relationship between one case and the other," he stated.
Besides, Barros hopes that in the long run these companies will change their minds and come back “because nobody threw them out," he concluded.
Previously, Montanari warned in an interview with the financial journal Estrategia that with the current statutes, in a short period of time SalmonChile might no longer belong to the Chileans. Moreover, he critiqued the role of SalmonChile and its technical institute Intesal commenting that “if I am going to be fined I can only recognize the Government, which has established a law, not institutes which no one controls, such as Intesal. If this is not solved, it might end with a further loss of members," he said.
Finally, SalmonChile stated in a press release –among other issues- that its Directive Council considers unacceptable any form of disqualification towards its members. “All of them: large, medium, Chilean or foreign [companies] are inserted into the same challenge and with the same belief and responsibility. Today, all of our energy is not expended on divisions, but towards the future and welfare of the local salmon industry and its 40,000 workers."
