In May of last year, when President Michelle Bachelet travelled to Norway to meet with Prime Minister Jens Stoltenberg and his Cabinet, she also extended an official invitation for Norway’s royal family to visit Chile in 2008, with the intention of strengthening the economic and political ties with Norway. Planning began immediately to coordinate a special Norwegian-Chilean seminar on aquaculture upon confirmation of the royal family’s visit, and today the town of Puerto Varas will host the exclusive seminar composed of scientific and economic experts from Norway and Chile. The intention of the seminar is to determine how a stronger alliance can be formed between Chile and Norway to assure a sustainable growth of the salmon industry. The company AKVA Group is the official host for the royal Norwegian delegation during their visit in Chile’s salmon region.
