Norway is still defeating Chile in USA
The Chilean salmon producers sent 3,591 tonnes of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the USA as of February representing a 68.33% decrease compared with the 11,342 tonnes exported in the same period of 2009.
In terms of value, the American imports of fresh farmed salmon fillets from Chile decreased by 58.54% from USD 85.2 million to USD 35.3 million according to the trade data published by the Fisheries Statistics Division of the NOAA's National Marine Fisheries Service.
Meanwhile, USA imported 4,240 tonnes of this product from Norway as of February this year representing a 468% increase compared with the 746 tonnes sent the same period of 2009. The value of the Norwegian exports of fresh farmed salmon fillets to the USA increased an impressive 563.62% from USD 6.1 million to USD 40.5 million.
USA imported 10,332 tonnes of fresh farmed salmon fillets as of February 2010 worth USD 101.9 million.
