NOK 3 million-worth of salmon destroyed
The company's loss is estimated at around three million NOK, and employees might be affected by the incident, but copmany director, Fredd Wilsgård, says it was undoubtedly the right decision.
"The samples we took proved the presence of ISA, so we had to take action very quickly, to prevent further infection," Wilsgård told NRK.
Thereafter the salmon, which were due to be slaughtered in June next year, were pumped aboard a vessel, anaesthetized, and then destroyed.
"The salmon was too small to be slaughtered, therefore we chose to destroy them instead. Our slaugtherhouse will be affected by ths for 2-3 weeks next summer when the infected fish should have been slaugthered. It could mean an extra long holiday for the employees," he added.
