Newfoundland police investigating fish farm poaching
Canada: Newfoundland police are investigating questionable activities at a Cooke Aquaculture salmon farm on Newfoundland's Connaigre Peninsula.
Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) officers in Harbour Breton are investigating several incidents of poaching from the salmon pens owned by Cooke Aquaculture in Belleoram.
The RCMP or Cooke Aquaculture does not know how long the poaching has been going on. They are not sure how many fish have been taken either. However, the RCMP believe the number of fish taken is significant and that they are being caught with hooks and jigging lines.
Police say anyone found in possession of the fish or caught removing fish from the pens will be charged with possession of stolen property as well as theft.
The RCMP asks that anyone with information about the thefts contact the Harbour Breton detachment or call Crime Stoppers.
