New land-based freshwater facility to produce salmon
Through this project, the company expects to build and operate a pre-fattening freshwater facility, which will use a recycling water system.
According to the information provided by Salmones Humboldt to the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA), this facility will be located nearby Pargua (10th Region).
Besides, this salmon farm will have a production capacity of 6 million salmon with an average weight of 1.2Kg per fish and representing an estimated total biomass around 7,200 tonnes.
Salmones Humboldt said that this project will become a pioneering work in Chile, which modifies the conventional salmon farming systems. Among other goals, the company expects this facility to: manage and overcome those sanitary problems that have affected the Chilean salmon industry; overcome those complications imposed by the environment and nature; reduce the usage of antibiotics and drugs; and improve the environmental sustainability of the entire industry.
