New land-based freshwater facility passes environmental assessment
This project belongs to the local salmon producing company Salmones Humboldt, firm that is going to invest US$ 46 million in this facility, which will be located nearby Pargua (10th Region).
Through this project, the company expects to build and operate a pre-fattening freshwater facility, which will use a recycling water system. Besides, this salmon farm will have a production capacity of 6 million salmon with an average weight of 1.2Kg per fish and representing an estimated total biomass around 7,200 tonnes.
According to the Chilean radio BioBio, the governor of the 10th Region, Juan Sebastián Montes, was very pleased with this news, because he considers that this facility will provide the fish with better environmental conditions compared to those existing before the crisis triggered by the ISA virus.
