New freshwater facility for smolt production
According to the information provided by the company to the Environmental Impact Assessment System (SEIA), the construction of this facility is expected to start in August 2012 nearby La Unión, in the XIV Region (The Rivers) and located about 140km north from Puerto Montt.
Among other goals, this facility is expected to produce close to 19.5 million eggs, 18 million fry and 16 million smolts per year. The company considers that 70grs is the ideal sowing size for those smolts leaving this facility.
Salmones de Chile is the 19th largest salmon producing company in Chile with accumulated exports of US$ 37.19 million in the first 10 months of 2010 according to the Export Promotion Bureau of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (ProChile).
